How Acquired

Via trade with New England Revolution on 08/15/08, for allocation money and the teams swapped rankings. Toronto went from 13th to 2nd in the allocation rankings.

This young, speedy forward was a great addition by the coaching staff with many other clubs seeking his services. With a pace equal to that of his teammate Marvell Wynne, Smith occasionally played on the wing where his speed was very beneficial in getting by defenders delivering crosses into the box. He received limited playing time in 2008, but he'll look to bolster his numbers after a strong pre-season with the entire team.

MLS Experience

2008: Played in 10 games, 3 as a starter…logged 371 minutes and added 1 assist…his first MLS point was recorded on 10/04/08 assisting on "Ibbe" Ibrahim's goal against the New York Red Bulls…saw action in 4 TFC Reserve games, all as a starter compiling 325 minutes and recorded 1 assist.

Other Pro Experience

Signed a 3 year scholarship with the Bolton Academy (England)…in 2006-07 season was on Bolton's bench for their games against Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton Athletic…made his first team debut for Bolton in October 2006 in their Carling Cup defeat at Charlton…later that month on 10/28/06 made his Premiership debut against Manchester United coming on in the 85th minute…joined Carlisle United on loan 01/31/07 and made his debut against Doncaster Rovers as a 63rd minute sub…scored first professional goal against Swansea City on 04/29/07…released from Bolton in May 2008.

International Experience

Is listed on the U.S. U-23 player pool…was named to FIFA U-20 World Cup Squad that competed in Toronto in the summer of 2007 but an injury pre-tournament forced him to withdraw…in 5 appearances with the U-20's he has scored 4 goals

Personal: Son of Leonard and Carmen, has one sister…favourite TV show is "Fresh Prince of Bel Air"…Johann says the best meal he cooks is Achee and salt fish…says if he wasn't a soccer player he'd probably be studying Astrology or quantum physics…lists New York as the best MLS city to visit…enjoys going to the movies with a date…the player he'd most like to face in a game is Patrice Evra of Manchester United…enjoys listening to African American emcee Cormega…and lists Jamaica as his favourite vacation destination where he also has family, and tried to spend as much time as possible with them.
